Ayesha Gilani

Gilani's strong pageant background made her the right candidate for representing Pakistan internationally in beauty pageants. Winning titles of Miss Congeniality, and Miss Elegance, in the past pageants, Ayesha Gilani wanted to make a difference for Pakistan. In her previous pageants, she befriended Miss Israel and made sure that she sent a message of peace and love to her and her countrymen from Pakistan. She made sure that all nations that were present there saw Pakistan through her eyes.

Miss England winners take to the skies for charity

Three Miss England titleholders are all set to take part in a charity skydive in aid of Beauty with a Purpose.

Reigning 2011 Miss England Alize Lily Mounter, 2010 winner Jessica Linley and 2008 winner Laura Coleman have organised the event with the help of the Red Devils.

They are hoping to perform the freefall skydive and tandem parachute jump on 11 April.

Beauty with a Purpose fundraising success at Miss Wales 2012

The Miss Wales grand final raised over £40,000 for the Beauty with a Purpose charity, supporting disadvantaged children worldwide.

As part of the grand final the contestants competed in three catwalk rounds in front of a panel of judges, including a party wear round, Welsh wear round and evening wear round. A charity ball was also held on the eve of the final in support of Beauty with a Purpose.

Sophie Moulds was crowned at the glittering ceremony at St David’s Hall, Cardiff on 14th April 2012.

The 19 year old student from Ferndale will go on to represent Wales at the 2012 Miss World in Ordos, Inner Mongolia.

Dorset finalists raise £2,000 for Beauty with a Purpose

Twelve Dorset regional contest finalists have successfully raised £2000 for the Beauty with a Purpose charity.

Annabell Newman was crowned the winner at the ceremony held on 21st April 2012. The 19 year old studies marketing at Bournemouth University and is also a qualified dance instructor. Annabell will now go forward to the Miss England grand final in June.

The organiser of the Dorset final commented, “The night was a great success and everyone had a wonderful time. The amount of money raised, for just 12 girls, is amazing."

The top fundraiser was 22 year old Gemma Wall, who raised £385.

The 1950s

The first Miss World, Sweden's Kiki Haakonson, was the first and last winner to be actually crowned in a two-piece swimsuit.
During the first decade of the pageant’s success, the outfits of contestants continued to raise eyebrows and grab headlines. In 1959, Loretta Powell of the United States arrived at the House of Commons in London clad in a Stetson, ruffled shirt and cowboy trousers. She may have got away with wearing what at the time was considered a tad outrageous, but she didn’t get away with her ‘guns’. The two stern-faced coppers in charge demanded she hand over her ‘firearms’ - even copies are not allowed in the British Parliament.
